Your whistleblower hotline might be helping you check a box on your compliance checklist, but it's not helping you retain your employees. Employees rarely use such hotlines anyway, even when they have something serious to report. You need to hear what's really going on within your company. And if you want consistent and truthful feedback that will provide real value, you must be selective about the program you set up.

Anonymous surveys and whistleblower hotlines alert business leaders to cases of suspicious behaviors, workplace theft, accounting fraud, substance abuse, threats, and harassment, giving employees a discreet way to report things. While this is not the only way employers learn of employee complaints and reports of problems, outdated hotlines can fail to catch all your company’s risks. 

It takes just one serious employee complaint to create havoc in an organization. Unfair and illegal business practices and behaviors can put employees in a difficult spot; do they tell someone they can trust or do they look for another job and try to move on?

Glassdoor has a significant influence as one of the top job sites in the U.S. Some 45 million job seekers access company data from their site each month, researching jobs from internships to executive positions. Needless to say, negative Glassdoor reviews about your company can affect your employment brand and the quality of your new hires.

The email stung. It was from a colleague about our last meeting. I thought we had resolved everything. We talked about what didn’t work with the last project, what we learned from it, and what we would do differently. I walked away feeling good that we could have a positive outcome from a less-than-positive deliverable.

There’s a lot of frenetic energy right now. A pandemic, followed by a global racial justice uprising, has accelerated the demand for change on almost every level: individually, institutionally, and structurally.

At AllVoices we are committed to making sure employees have a safe way to speak up about the issues that matter to them and companies have a way to track in real-time what is going on at their organization.

When we speak to companies about anonymous employee reporting, a common misconception is that existing processes negate the need for it. Companies often rely on older processes for reporting workplace issues, including speaking directly to your manager, or utilizing HR’s open door policy.

We started AllVoices in 2017 to provide a safe space for employees to speak up about workplace harassment. As the #MeToo movement exploded, it was painfully clear that traditional avenues for reporting sexual harassment were failing employees and companies alike.

Slowly news trickled in from around the world. There was a new virus spreading in Asia. Death rates were elevated and the disease was spreading quickly among people. But few in the US were thinking much of it.

The #MeToo movement, founded by Tarana Burke in 2006 to fight against sexual violence inflicted on women and girls, has raised tremendous awareness about the sexual misconduct, harassment, and assault that millions of people have faced in their lives. With a new decade under way, it is now essential that the momentum this created results in lasting, sustainable change.

Millennials. As of 2020, they are estimated to make up nearly 50% of the workforce.  As a generation raised on heavy parental communication and our adulthood cemented in instantaneous likes and comments from every social feed we subscribe to, we are a generation that values ongoing communication and feedback. And that desire doesn’t just stop at our personal lives, it extends to our workplaces too.

Hollywood changed forever in late 2017, when news stories naming high-profile perpetrators of sexual harassment and misconduct began to surface.
